Day 5 — we ride for these kids (& route details)
Today, we ride for these kids. The kid for which this charity foundation was created, Cal Sutter — and several other kids, lost their battles with cancer. It makes me angry that we are the most advanced technologically we've ever been, but kids die because our government funds wars in other countries and doesn't prioritize the health of our most vulnerable citizens. One of these children died of rhabdomyosarcoma, which scares me as a parent of a child who's only recently finished his rhabdomyosarcoma therapy and is in remission.
Participating in this ride is one of the most emotionally and physically draining things I've ever done, and that is not hyperbole. Your mind has hours to meditate and reflect as you're sore, tired, hungry. That battle is nowhere near the battle these kids face, and they don't have a choice. It's fight or die — and sometimes they die while fighting.
That's why we ride. We ride for them.
Our route takes us south into Illinois and we finish in Saint Charles. If you're in Chicagoland, come see us! We should arrive around 4pm.
